Homepage Surround

The Homepage Surround is a branding opportunity that provides the advertiser with several ad placements on the page. Creative essentially wraps around or surrounds the site content. The placement consists of the Pencil Expand, a Bottom Pencil and a Medium Rectangle.

The Pencil Expand follows site business rules of: auto-expanded on page load for five seconds, auto experience capped at once per user a day, and may be re-expanded by the guest on-click.

* The total combined weight of all three Homepage Surround units is 180K. That file weight can be allocated across the three units as needed, as long as they do not total more than 180K.


  • Pencil Expand: May auto-expand for 5 seconds, must collapse on 6th second
  • Pencil Expand: Subsequent expands must be user-initiated on-click
  • Pencil Expand: A close button will be present at all times to allow the site visitor full control over the ad experience
    • For in-house served ads, please do not include button, it will be added via the ad template
  • IMPORTANT: Any expand or floating creative must break out of i-Frames
  • For third party served creative, only JavaScript tags will be accepted; Iframe tags are not accepted
  • For ads served in-house:
    • Polite download file allowance does not apply to creative served in-house
    • The top-right 35x35 pixel area will be overlaid by the expand/close button via the ad template, please do not include these button within creative
    • Expand/collapse functionality is controlled by the site through ad template
  • 952x66 backup non-expanding strip required
  • A default experience must be provided for non-compliant browsers
  • Site reserves right of final approval on creative assets
  • Capping: Applied by in-house to Pencil Expand, auto pushdown capped at once per user per day
